One thing that we've been taught about from the very moment we begin our schooling (sometimes even before that), is the fact that your grades matter a lot and that your grades define who you are. If you're an academically well-scoring person, you're automatically assumed to be the smartest. On the contrary, if you're not so good in terms of scoring well, you're deemed as a dumb person. Whatever category you fall under, over here is irrelevant.
Sure, as a not-so-bright student you may have to work double or triple harder than the ones who have been consistently scoring well. But you need to understand that this is not the end of your world.
And here I am, giving you a reality check on your school life.
In theory, the concept of having good grades sound extremely good. It sounds as if you are active and persistent and have learned a lot. In theory, again, it sounds like a wonderful concept to realise what you've learned as a law student or any other student during your school/ university life.
Sadly though, if you were graded on the basis of your learning curve, you'd be a master of at least one subject. But right now, the misery lies in the fact that your law school grades aren't tested based on the knowledge alone, but also against your classmates.
This means, if someone is better than you in something, well, you're automatically assumed to not be good enough.
Misery, wherefore art thou?
And before anyone comes up to you and states that you are your grades, just show them this blog. YOU ARE NOT YOUR GRADES.
Your grades do not define you. Your character does, your personality does and how you conduct yourself does.
Albert Einstein once said, "If you test the ability of a fish to climb up the tree, it is going to spend its entire life assuming that it isn't good enough."
Of course, as a normal human being, you're allowed to keep your hopes up, study hard and get sad about the fact that you haven't been able to score well. As a normal human being, it's completely fine to feel bad about the fact that you haven't scored well.
But what isn't fine is the fact that you or anyone else consider (s) yourself "not good enough" because of your grades.
This is because, that at any point in time, you can start over, work harder and smarter and improve your grades. But you cannot bounce back from the feeling that you aren't good enough.
As Pitbull says, "This is for everybody going through tough times. Believe me, been there, done that."
All you need to remember is basing your worth on grades, isn't healthy. And if anyone says otherwise, feel free to show them this blog post. You already have my ID, so I'll deal with them.
You can score good grades to feel better. But grades shouldn't be the reason to feel better. Believe me, been there, done that. The feeling is temporary and goes away until the cycle breaks. Keep your head high.
Everyone has a purpose in life, if you aren't scoring well, it doesn't mean you're not capable of scoring well. Perhaps you could look for your calling, your purpose and the eternal feeling of being good enough without basing them on your grades.
I hope this blog post was perhaps an interesting read and I know it isn't what I usually post, but looking at the number of people who base their worth on grades and grades alone, made me realise that this post had to be made.
Hope this was helpful! Let me know in the comments below as to what posts would you like to see in future!
